Cycle 1 · Experiences & Career · Class 4

From Support to Independence

Today we are not adding a big new list of English. We are making the language from Classes 1–3 easier to remember, faster to retrieve and clearer to use.

Today’s mission
Retrieve → use → refine → repeat. By the end of class, you will answer three professional questions with less support and a clearer structure.

How today works

Support → Independence

You will see the same useful language several times, but with less help each time.

LEVEL 1
Full support

I was responsible for…

LEVEL 2
First words

I was ______

LEVEL 3
Function only

RESPONSIBILITY

LEVEL 4
Independent use

No prompt. You retrieve it.

Important: support is not cheating. The goal is to use it, close it and try again with less help.

Bring Giulia up to speed

Giulia missed our last episode. Andrey & Sara: choose a card and explain it. Giulia: listen, then tell us what you understand.

01

Professional background

Past → ____________

past → now → next
02

Difficult situation

Responsibility → ______ → Action → ______

responsibility → problem → action → result
03

Pressure & deadlines

______ → Action → Result

strategy → action → result
Giulia’s turn: Which answer is mostly past? Which one is mostly present habits? Which one moves through past, now and next?
Game 1 · Memory Vault · 5–12 min

Can you unlock the chunks?

Say the expression before asking for help. Each vault gives you a small hint, then a stronger hint, then the complete chunk.

Vaults revealed: 0/7Round 2: hide the screen and retrieve from function only.
Game 2 · Chunk Snap · 12–18 min

Match the halves

Click one beginning and one ending. Build the complete chunk.

I ended up…

staying / changing / moving

I’m focusing on…

improving / learning / getting

I was responsible for…

leading / checking / supporting

Learn the whole pattern: end up + -ing · focus on + -ing · responsible for + -ing.
Quick lexical lens · optional 2 min

Run into · Face · Deal with

These expressions live in the same professional story, but they do different jobs.

⚠️ problem appearsrun into

We ran into a problem.

👀 problem is thereface

We faced a difficult situation.

🛠️ take actiondeal with

We dealt with the problem.

The problem already exists. Now we need to take action. Which fits best?
Use apenas se a dúvida reaparecer. Não transforme em aula de phrasal verbs. O objetivo é separar função: encounter → confront → handle.

Listen again — with a new mission

This is the Class 3 interview. Repetition is intentional. This time, hunt for useful chunks.

Round 1 · Listen & Steal

Click a chunk when you hear it. Can the group “steal” all of them?

Round 2 · What job does the chunk do?

“I took the initiative and…”
“We managed to turn it around.”
“Right now, I’m focusing on…”

Interviewer
Could you tell me a little about your professional background?

Candidate
Sure. I started out as an assistant in a small travel agency. At first, I expected to stay for only a few months, but then I was given more responsibility. I ended up moving into corporate travel. Right now, I’m focusing on training new team members, and what I’d like to do next is move into management.

Interviewer
Tell me about a time you faced a difficult situation at work. How did you handle it?

Candidate
Last year, I was responsible for an important delivery, and we ran into a major issue because some of the materials hadn’t arrived. I took the initiative and called the client directly. In the end, we managed to turn it around by agreeing on a new delivery date.

Interviewer
How do you deal with pressure and deadlines?

Candidate
I usually start by setting priorities. I also keep everyone involved updated, and if a deadline is too tight, I ask for more time when necessary. What I learned from past situations is that clear communication prevents bigger problems.

Game 3 · Time Zone · 25–31 min

Before, now or next?

Select an expression, then place it in the correct zone.

🕰 Before / Past

🎯 Now / Habits

➡️ Next / Future

Challenge round · The question chooses the zone

Tell me about a time you faced a difficult situation at work.
How do you deal with pressure and deadlines?
Could you tell me a little about your professional background?
Useful question: Is the interviewer asking about before, now, or next?
Use “before / now / next” como prompt corretivo no lugar de uma explicação longa de tempos verbais. Isso reduz TTT e mantém o foco comunicativo.
Pattern Power · 31–36 min

Keep it or fix it?

Choose quickly. Then say the whole correct pattern aloud.

1. I was responsible for leading a team.
2. I was responsible for lead a team.
3. Right now, I’m focusing on improve my English.
4. I decided to call the client.
5. We managed to solved the problem.
6. I ended up staying there.
7. Last year, I work on an important project.
8. The client didn’t want to wait.
responsible for + -ing
I was responsible for leading…
focus on + -ing
I’m focusing on improving…
end up + -ing
I ended up staying…
decide to + base
I decided to call…
manage to + base
We managed to solve…
didn’t + base
The client didn’t want…
Se houver atraso, faça apenas itens 2, 3, 5 e 7. Não derive regra geral. Repita o padrão inteiro: “managed to solve”, “focusing on improving”.
Build a strong answer · 36–41 min

From situation → clear interview answer

Situation
  • You were responsible for an important project.
  • Two days before the deadline, one team member got sick.
  • Part of the work wasn’t ready.
  • You reorganised the tasks.
  • The team finished on time.

👤 Responsibility

Rebuild it orally: Can the group produce the model again from function only?
Triad rehearsal · 41–48 min

Candidate · Interviewer · Coach

No timer yet. Key words are allowed. Full scripts are not.

If you get stuck: say “Can I have a chunk?” The teacher gives the smallest useful hint first.

Background

What made you change areas?
What are you focusing on now?
What would you like to do next?

Challenge

What was the hardest part?
What did you learn?
Would you handle it differently now?

Pressure

What do you do when a deadline is too tight?
How do you decide what to do first?

One action. One result.”
Emergent language · 48–52 min

Language from OUR class

Use real sentences from today. First let the group refine them; then reveal or type the improved version.

✅ KEEP

Clear, effective language.

🔧 REFINE

A useful correction.

⚡ SHARPER

A clearer or more concise version.

Registre 4–6 itens no máximo. Priorize: past, verb pattern, chunk retrieval e concisão.
Final Interview Challenge · 52–60 min

Second attempt. Less support. Clearer answer.

This is not a test. The timer helps you organise your answer. When it reaches zero, finish your sentence.
Could you tell me a little about your professional background?
🕰 PAST → 🎯 NOW → ➡️ NEXT
40

Last 5 seconds = finish your idea, not panic.

Follow-up
Ordem sugerida: Andrey → Giulia → Sara.
Close the cycle

Today I can…

Most important: fluency grows when the second version becomes clearer than the first.
